Frequently Asked Questions

What surface profile does slurry/wet blasting create?

Wet slurry blasting (vapor abrasive) produces a surface profile of 25-50µm Rz — shallower than dry blast (45-75µm). It is ideal for: coating maintenance where the existing system has 50-75µm profile already, sensitive equipment where dust is a concern, and marine environments where containment is mandatory. The profile is measured identically to dry blast using Testex replica tape and ISO 8503 visual comparators.

What is the difference between vacuum blast and standard blast?

Vacuum blast (recycled-blast) uses a closed-loop system that recovers and recycles abrasive immediately, reducing abrasive consumption by 80-90%. Standard blast is expendable (abrasive used once and disposed). Vacuum blast is ideal for: indoor work, areas near sensitive equipment, and projects requiring minimal dust. Standard blast is used for: large open-area field work, shipyard hulls, and heavy structural steel.

Can automated blast machines handle complex geometry?

Automated blast machines (table, drum, tumbler, robot) handle simple flat or cylindrical geometries best. Complex structures (flanges, I-beams with interior angles, vessel internals) still require manual blasting. BLAST APEX supplies both automated equipment and skilled manual operators for projects where automation is insufficient.
